"Grace Kiely, in particular, stands out" - The Irish Exmainer
I've loved music for as long as I can remember, in fact, at the tender age of five, my mother overheard me playing 'Three blind mice' on the piano and decided to send me for lessons. Unfortunately a love/hate relationship with the teacher (who was somewhat of an antique) left me scarred, but a basic understanding of music was achieved which certainly stood to me when subsequently learning guitar, tin-whistle and bodhrán. As a young child, I also learned the art of traditional Irish dancing and was frequently put forward to represent my club in singing and dancing competitions enjoying county, provincial and all-ireland successes. A dabbler in writing poetry since primary school, it was during a thoroughly enjoyable college spell in which I composed music for a Brecht drama, that I realised it was high time to put my poetry and my music together, something I have enjoyed doing ever since. In 2012 and 2014 I was a finalist in the Pan-celtic national song-writing competition with two of my songs including prize-winner "Nuair a d'imigh tú uaim". In 2014 I also realised a life-long dream and began learning the double bass: I think I'm in love. Now I play with Galway Adult Strings and NUIG concert orchestra and am enjoying using my new instrument in theatrical shows.
Composition for Clarinet and Voice by Jane O'Leary
Delighted to be asked to perform a premiere by one of Ireland's foremost contemporary music composers Jane O'Leary. The piece was composed for Clarinet and Voice and Jane had Paul Roe (one of Ireland's leading clarinet players) in mind as she composed it.
Here I am performing an extract from it with him.
Watch it here: Clara
P.S. the book 'Clara', by Jane Galloway, is an excellent read about the tragic life of amazingly talented Clara Schumann.

Mná Mná Music in Galway is just one of the many occasions where I have performed my own songs to a captive audience.

In May 2013 Mná Mná moved to its new home Upstairs in The Townhouse.. I was delighted to be invited to perform at the inaugural Towhhouse gig. It was such a perfect venue for one of Galway's most inspiring nights.
